how to serve

Matthew 8:14 – 15 (NLT)

When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.

Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law. Her response? She got up and served.

An experience with God’s grace will lead to effortless unforced service.

An experience with God’s grace is the missing link in our efforts to get Christians to serve God and neighbour.

Most Christians resist or are lackadaisical in their service to God and humanity when their service is connected to their standing before God. When God is judge and master, all attempts to pull the Christian closer to God achieves the opposite.

Most of our preaching is devoid of the gospel of grace hence this result. Grace is taught as a once-off subject and not the whole reality of the gospel.

Preacher, do you want your people to serve and serve well? Sunday after Sunday, place the gospel of grace in front of them. Give your people grace. Like Peter’s mother-in-law, they will serve the Lord with gladness. (Psalm 100:2)
